Modern Masters: 9 May to 5 June 2012 Major paintings by Brett Whiteley, Sidney Nolan, Charles Blackman, Tim Storrier, Garry Shead, Arthur Boyd, Margaret Olley and Russell Drysdale.

Included in this exhibition are major works by Brett Whiteley, Margaret Olley and Sidney Nolan fresh to the market. Curated from Savill Galleries' extensive stockroom, this impressive array of museum quality paintings represents the cream of Australia's artistic talent. Brett Whiteley's 'Seagull (Japanese Screaming Voice)' painted in 1988, very briefly owned by John Singleton, was then sold by Savill Galleries to a major private collection. This Whiteley remained in this private collection for over 25 years and it being offered for sale and is fresh to the market. The provenance of this work is impeccable and it was originally exhibited in Brett Whiteley's 'Bird' show exhibition at his Raper Street Studio - now the Brett Whiteley Museum.

Iconic themes of Australia's history are included, such as the folklore surrounding Ned Kelly, here represented by Sidney Nolan in the painting titled 'Ned Kelly', and the large 1964 work, 'River Bank', part of an important series of works created by Nolan in the 1960's and widely acclaimed. Other works by Sidney Nolan, also part of this collection are two large oils from his 'Miners' series, drawn from his observations of workers on Australiaís remote and brutal mining fields in the Hamersley Ranges in Northwest WA in the mid 1970s.

Works in the collection by Arthur Boyd include 3 classic paintings from his renowned Shoalhaven series, along with a beautiful 1960ís work painted and first exhibited in London at the Zwemmer Gallery, titled 'Lovers in a Landscape'.

Also featured are two iconic landscapes by Fred Williams, including the 1968 oil 'Lysterfield V' plus a haunting oil by Charles Blackman titled 'Veiled Light' 1972, which was previously sold by Savill Galleries in 1996 for $40,000 and now has a price tag of $195,000.

Many of the 30 works on display, have previously been included in important exhibitions by Australian Public Galleries and other well-known local and international galleries, and many of these works have also been included in publications about the artistís work, or belonged to major private or corporate collections.

This impressive collection has been put together by Savill Galleries from their extensive stockroom, which has been built up over a period of 30 years, with well-established connections to leading Australian art collections, both public and private.

Major oils by Russell Drysdale, Margaret Olley, Donald Friend, Tim Storrier and Garry Shead make up the remaining works in this outstanding, must see exhibition.
