Euan Macleod was born in NZ, where he completed a Diploma of Fine Arts (Painting) at Canterbury University, Christchurch in 1979. He has been living in Sydney since 1981 and has exhibited in both New Zealand and Australia since. His work is represented in several prominent collections including the National Gallery of Australia, the National Gallery of Victoria, New England Regional Art Museum, Wollongong Art Gallery, Heide Park and Art Gallery, and the New Parliament House Collection. His work has also been purchased for the Centre for Contemporary Art, Hamilton, N.Z.
He was awarded the prestigious Archibald Prize for portraiture in 1991, and also won the Sulman award in 2001. He has been a finalist several times in both the Wynne and the Sulman awards. His subject matter covers both figurative and landscape work. His style can be described as very painterly and textural. |
