Biographical Details:
Adrian Feint was born in 1894 at Narrandera, in country New South Wales. From an early age, Feint was interested in drawing and in 1912 entered the Sydney Art School where he studied under Julian Ashton and Elioth Gruner.
In 1919 Feint commenced further studied at the AcadÈmie Julien, Paris, before returning to Australia where he worked for advertising agencies, primarily creating monotone designs for magazine covers.
Feint began to exhibit vividly coloured oil paintings in 1929 with the Society of Artists, of which he became a member in 1931. With the support of close friends and patrons, Feint effectually gave up commercial design in 1938 to concentrate on painting.
Feint's still life and flowers paintings received critical acclaim in the 1940s and 1950s. Sydney Ure Smith published Adrian Feint Flower Paintings in 1948 where he states that Adrian Feint is 'The most distinguished painter of flowers in Australia'. p.7.
Over the years, Savill Galleries has owned a number of works by Adrian Feint with the work titled Oriental Garden being one of the largest oils owned by this well known Australian artist.
